Emerging Sprouts' Frequently Asked Questions
Is this program hard to get into? How do we secure a spot?
Yes, our programs are very popular and spaces are limited. To secure a spot, we recommend signing up for the waitlist for the specific program you’re interested in. All waitlists can be found on our home page or the Castro Valley Programs page. All families on the waitlist are notified 2 hours before enrollment opens to the public. In the past, spots have filled within an hour of opening, so joining the waitlist is the best way to ensure your child’s place.
Can my child take the bus, or is transportation required?
You are welcome to drive your child to school if that works best for your family. We do offer bus transportation, but it requires a minimum number of students to make it available. Once that threshold is met, the bus provides a convenient way for children to get to and from school safely, giving families more flexibility in their schedules.
Do we need to be part of the Castro Valley School District to enroll?
Yes, enrollment is open to families within the Castro Valley School District, as we partner directly with the district. If you’re outside the district but still interested in joining our programs, please reach out to us by email—we’d be happy to discuss options with you.
Do we have to attend an in-person tour to enroll?
Yes, enrollment is open to families within the Castro Valley School District, as we partner directly with the district. If you’re outside the district but still interested in joining our programs, please reach out to us by email—we’d be happy to discuss options with you.
What happens if my child runs or leaves their group?
Safety is our top priority. We require that children stay with their assigned group at all times. If a child runs or leaves the group and is unable to follow safety guidelines, the school reserves the right to unenroll the child after one incident to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Can my child attend with a 1:1 support or if they have a disability?
Yes! We have experience supporting many families and welcome applications from children with disabilities. We do ask that you disclose any disabilities during enrollment so we can ensure appropriate support and a safe, positive experience for your child. If you’d like to discuss your child’s needs in more detail, please email us directly.
Do we need to provide waterproof clothing for our child, or does the school supply it?
For TK, Kindergarten, and 1st–3rd grade afterschool programs, we provide all necessary waterproof clothing and gear, since children are coming from their regular school. Families pay a rental fee, which is included at the time of signup, so your child will be fully outfitted and ready for outdoor learning.
What happens if my child gets hungry? Are snacks provided?
All students are required to bring a reusable water bottle each day. We provide snacks for students during their time at school. If a child forgets their water bottle, they may use one of ours, and a small charge will apply.
Do we have to sign up for the full school year?
Yes, enrollment is for the full school year. Tuition is based on reserving a space for your child, not on daily attendance. This ensures your child’s spot is guaranteed, even if they miss days due to sickness, doctor’s appointments, or other absences.
What happens if we need to unenroll?
When you enroll, a one-third deposit is required and is non-refundable. After that, any refunds are based on a sliding scale depending on when you unenroll. For full details, please refer to the family handbook.
